Excited moviegoers and fans of the 2006 movie “The Devil Wears Prada” welcomed Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly back to the screen over the weekend, piling into theaters to see the film’s sequel more than 20 years later.
But for New Orleans area fans, that’s not all — the film featured a cameo from Grammy-winning musician and native son Jon Batiste.
Batiste, who is fresh off a headlining set at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival’s Festival Stage on April 24, appeared in the movie alongside his wife, writer Suleika Jaouad.
The duo shares a scene with Streep, posing as guests for lunch at Priestly’s Hamptons home, Harper’s Bazaar reported.
Batiste teased the couple’s cameo on Instagram last week with a photo taken on the red carpet at the movie’s New York City premiere.
Batiste, who grew up in Kenner, has won eight Grammy Awards and received 25 nominations, including “Album of the Year in 2022 for his album “We Are.” He’s also appeared in other major films, including “Saturday Night” and “The Color Purple.”
“The Devil Wears Prada 2” is the long-awaited sequel to the 2006 movie adapted from the best-selling novel. Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs returns to help Priestly’s “Runway” magazine as it struggles in the digital age. Emily Blunt’s Emily Charlton and Stanley Tucci’s Nigel Kipling also return.
Batiste and Jaouad aren’t the only famous cameos in the film, either. Lady Gaga, Donatella Versace and Heidi Klum all make an appearance, along with a handful of other celebrities and influencers.
The movie is currently playing only in theaters.
