The New York Police Department is gearing up for an influx of crowds as fans prepare for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s possible wedding in the Big Apple.
Variety reported on Thursday, June 25, that two NYPD officers patrolling around Madison Square Garden one day prior said they had been briefed about paparazzi and onlookers flocking to the area.
The officers, who spoke to the outlet on condition of anonymity, noted that the couple’s wedding has been a topic of conversation with other friends in the police force.
As speculation has grown about Swift and Kelce’s wedding date, The New York Times reported on Wednesday, June 24, that a permit was filed with New York City to close the streets surrounding MSG from July 2 to midday July 4 for an event on July 3. The outlet cited three people who have knowledge of the matter, with a city official who was briefed on the preparations further insinuating that MSG is planning to host the wedding on July 3.
The report alleged that Amtrak police officers who patrol the station beneath MSG were also told to expect a wedding occurring that weekend.
More clues include Winick Productions, which has helped produce events at the venue, filing an application with New York City’s Street Activity Permit Office earlier this month. The request asked that the company set up a tent or canopy outside MSG for the event. They also noted that trucks would need space for loading and unloading.
Additionally, some of the NFL star’s Kansas City Chiefs teammates allegedly booked hotel rooms for dates around July 3 at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, a person told of the accommodations said. The location is just blocks from MSG.
The New York Times later updated their article to include an entertainment industry executive and another person with knowledge of the matter, explaining that Kelce and Swift, both 36, are planning a 100-person gathering on July 2 at MSG, with about 1,000 guests gathering at the venue the following day for a larger celebration.
Swift and Kelce, who announced their engagement in 2025 after two years of dating, have remained tight-lipped about their upcoming nuptials. Earlier this month, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani all but confirmed that the pair’s wedding would be occurring in the Big Apple.
“I am fully confident in the work of the NYPD, as well as our state partners, in delivering that safe experience,” the mayor said during a press conference, while discussing the city’s involvement in the 2026 World Cup. “We are the biggest city in the country. We are used to big events, and we are incredibly excited for this one.”
Mamdani continued, “We know it coincides with the [New York] Knicks’ [NBA] Finals run. We know it coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding — all happening at the same time — and we are so excited to welcome the world here.”
