The Old North Festival Chorus in Marblehead will present its annual Christmas concerts on Dec. 6-7, according to a community announcement.
Cconcerts will take place at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, and at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, in the sanctuary of the Old North Church Meeting House, 35 Washington St., Marblehead, according to the announcement.
The 45th annual event is part of Marblehead’s Christmas Walk.
This year’s concerts will feature a chorus and full orchestra performing Joseph Haydn’s “Missa in tempore belli,” also known as “Paukenmesse” or “Kettledrum Mass.” Other selections include John Rutter’s “When Icicles Hang” and works by Dan Forrest and Mark Hayes, along with other seasonal favorites.
Soloists and guest artists include Holly Cameron and Anne Burgett, sopranos; Rebecca Kenneally, mezzo-soprano; Kevin Hayden, tenor; David Thomas Mather, baritone; and Caleb Mayo, narrator.
Chorus director is back for a 37th year
The Old North Festival Orchestra and the 90-voice chorus will be led by Maria van Kalken, minister of music at Old North Church, according to the announcement. She’s celebrating her 37th season as director of the Festival Chorus.
The Festival Chorus brings together Old North’s Senior Choir with singers from various neighboring communities. Each season, the chorus welcomes new members while maintaining a core group of returning participants. This year’s chorus includes more than 80 singers.
Tickets for the Festival Chorus performances are priced at $35, according to the announcement. They can be purchased in advance at several Marblehead businesses, including Arnould Gallery, Maria’s Gourmet and Crosby’s Marketplace. Tickets are also available online at onchurch.org/festivalchorus.
The Old North Festival Chorus is supported in part by a grant from the Marblehead Cultural Council, which is administered through the Massachusetts Cultural Council, according to the announcement.
