Olivia Rodrigo has released the music video for her new single “Drop Dead”, offering the first look at her forthcoming third album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.

The video, directed by Petra Collins, sees Rodrigo moving through the Palace of Versailles in Paris, running between ornate rooms before picking up a pink guitar and singing: “You lookin’ like an angel on the walls of Versailles/The most alive I’ve ever been.”

The song focuses on an online crush, with Rodrigo singing about stalking them “on the internet”, and referencing The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven”, including the lines: “You know all the words to ‘Just Like Heaven’ / And I know why he wrote them/Now that you’re standin’ right here.”

She performed the song with The Cure’s Robert Smith at Glastonbury last June.

“Drop Dead” was produced by Dan Nigro and co-written with Amy Allen.

In a post on Instagram, the “Deja Vu” singer described the new single as the “first chapter” of the new album, writing: “It makes me wanna skip around and roll the windows down and make out! I was lucky enough to film the music video at the Palace of Versailles a few months ago with the wonderful Petra Collins and I’m so stoked with how it turned out. I hope you guys love it as much as I do.”

You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love is Rodrigo’s third studio album, following Sour (2021) and Guts (2023), both of which were also produced with Nigro.

Ahead of the album’s release, Rodrigo is set to appear as both host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live on 2 May. She has previously appeared as a musical guest in 2021 and 2023.

You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love is scheduled for release on 12 June.
