Don’t worry, darling: Olivia Wilde is doing just fine.
The “House” star, 42, is laughing off mean comments about her appearance after images of her in a recent red carpet interview went viral on social media.
In a since-expired Instagram story, Wilde, wearing a hoodie and wrapped in a blanket, was filmed by her brother, who playfully asked her to “address recent rumors that you’re a resurrected corpse,” according to TMZ and People. The video included a side-by-side showing Wilde in the red carpet interview next to Gollum from “The Lord of the Rings.”
“Listen, that is a fisheye lens!” Wilde said, laughing. “And I admit, is that my best angle? Was that my best-ever look? No. No. It’s startling. It’s a startling image. It was a fisheye lens!”
She added, continuing to laugh as she spoke, “I don’t know why I was so close to the camera. I didn’t have to be. That’s not the truth. Do you have any more questions? I’m not dead!”
The viral images of Wilde came from an interview with SFGate on the red carpet of the San Francisco International Film Festival, where she stepped out for her new movie “The Invite.”
Screenshots from the interview spread across social media, sparking a mixture of cruel jokes about the “Booksmart” director and genuine concern about her health.
Other fans took to the comments of the original video to joke about Wilde being done a disservice by the person filming the interview. “I see the camera man is using the ‘[husband], can you take a picture of me?’ angle,” one commenter quipped. Another commenter joked the cameraman “is a Jason Sudeikis fan,” referencing Wilde’s former partner.
Wilde is promoting her new comedy “The Invite,” her first film as a director since her 2022 thriller “Don’t Worry Darling,” starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles. Wilde also stars in “The Invite” alongside Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton. The movie, which premiered at January’s Sundance Film Festival, hits theaters on June 26.
