Actor Domhnall Gleeson, who played the eldest Weasley child, Bill, in the films Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and 2, shared his thoughts about the upcoming HBO Harry Potter television series.
While speaking to Collider in September 2025, Gleeson referenced that the finalHarry Potter film, Deathly Hallows Part 2, premiered in 2011.
“It’s funny to be at the age where stuff is getting made again. [Laughs] In some aspect of it, you just check your age,” said Gleeson during the interview with Collider.
He clarified that he approves of the upcoming show, as he believes the book series, written by J.K. Rowling, will lend itself well to a television format.
“But no, I think it’s cool. I think it’s really well suited to TV,” said Gleeson to the publication.
He also said his opinion may be different than other original Harry Potter actors, as he had a limited role as Bill.
“And also, I wasn’t in Harry Potter that much so I don’t feel that it’s mine in the same way that maybe some of the others would have a right to. I just hope it’s really good. I don’t really feel ownership of that,” said Gleeson in the September 2025 interview.
The Harry Potter television series, which stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, is currently in production, as reported by People. Its release date will be in 2027, per the publication.

In a 2011 interview in promotion of the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 DVD, Gleeson said that he wasn’t as emotional as his fellow Harry Potter castmates when Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 wrapped filming.
“I’m not as attached to it. Because I just wasn’t there for 10 years it wasn’t being at school for me. It was joining for a term,” explained Gleeson in the interview.
Gleeson shared how he was cast as Bill for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1, which premiered in 2010, in a 2018 interview with BUILD Series. According to Gleeson, he auditioned to play Knight Bus conductor, Stan Shunpike, for the 2004 film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. He also noted that his father, Brendan Gleeson, was brought on to play Alastor ‘Mad-Eye’ Moody in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which premiered in 2005.
The About Time actor said that he visited the Goblet of Fire set because he was a fan of the series. Gleeson said he was offered to be a stand-in for the Weasley twins, played by Oliver and James Phelps. He said while he didn’t take up the offer, he “ended up auditioning for the last two films” and landed the role.
“I was so happy to be in them,” said the Paper actor.
