Orlando Bloom recently described the impact of his physical transformation for The Cut on his body and mental state in an interview. He also detailed the process behind the creation of his look for the film. The sports psychological thriller drama premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, 2024.
It is scheduled to be released theatrically across the United States next month. The story follows a retired boxer, played by Bloom, who decides to get back into the sport to win a championship title. Subsequently, the boxer begins a strict training regimen, supervised by a shady coach, involving intense preparation and illegal weight-cutting.

Orlando Bloom sat down for an interview where he described his physical transformation for his role in The Cut and its impact on his body and mind.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star told PEOPLE that “the challenge” of transforming himself for the film “excited” him. He shared that “the mental toll” caused by the “intense discipline” behind his transformation process “surprised” him.
“The paranoia and anxiety were very real and disturbing,” Bloom added. “Caused by the lack of sleep — turns out you can’t sleep when you’re hungry!”
Bloom further stated that the “water restriction” he experienced to reach his “lowest weight” for the film’s last scenes caused “obsessive thoughts of food.” He stated that he dreamt of the foods he could consume once he got off his diet for the movie — tuna and cucumber.
The Lord of the Rings star warned about the training process he followed for the film. He said that it wasn’t something people should “try at home.”
Bloom explained that he was supervised every week by expert nutritionist Phillip Goglia, who also monitored his blood work. He noted that Goglia helped him lose 30 pounds in three months.
“Ultimately, this is a story about the struggles we all face and what it takes to battle our internal demons and find self-acceptance,” Bloom concluded.
The Cut drops in theaters across the United States on September 5, 2025.
Sean Ellis helmed the film from a script penned by Justin Bull and story by Mark Lane. Besides Bloom, the film also stars Caitríona Balfe, John Turturro, Eric D. Smith, Clare Dunne, Ed Kear, Oliver Trevena, Andonis Anthony, and Gemma Acosta, among others.
