Nashville… it looks like there’s a big storm coming.
Am I referring to the three to eight inches (or even more?) of snow that’s supposed to hit the Music City when I say storm? Sort of. What I actually meant was the storm of anxiety and chaos that comes with The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore posting about winter weather in the Nashville area. When Jim Cantore mentions weather hitting a specific city, you know it’s about to go down.
All signs and forecasts are pointing towards Nashville getting hit by Winter Storm Fern this weekend– a weather system that is expected to move through much of the Midwest and southern United States (then into the north east) from late in the week and through the weekend. It’s set to leave behind freezing rain, ice, and plenty of snow, depending on how far south you go. For Nashville, it’s looking like it’s going to get mostly snow – and a lot of it.
Though it’s still too early to really predict how much snow could fall in Nashville and the surrounding Middle Tennessee area, meteorologists continue to communicate a rising confidence in a substantial amount of wintry precipitation. And one of the world’s most famous weather people – Jim Cantore – even thinks that Nashville could experience a record-breaking snowfall.
He posted this message earlier today with a graph of Nashville’s top snowstorms since 1871:
“Expect Nashville, Tennessee to join some rare company by the time all the SNOW falls over the weekend.”
Not exactly a promising update when Jim Cantore pulls out the record books. In fact, it’s never really promising when Jim Cantore is talking about where you live.
That’s how Nashvillians are starting to feel about the post from the famous weather man. Even the fiercest “the big snow forecast will just turn into a light dusting” believers are starting to show some concern. And many are hoping that Cantore doesn’t travel to Music City to report from there (like he did last January), because then that means that snowmageddon might actually be happening:

What an incredible shout by that last post… what about the Bachelorette parties? What are they going to do if Nashville is covered up with close to a foot of snow? I’m sure that there’s a group of young women out there somewhere freaking out about their weekend in Nashville being ruined by historic snowfall.
My guess is that, if they are able to get to Music City, they’ll have to invest in a fancy new pair of snow boots instead of cowboy boots.
