Paresh Rawal has opened up about the origins of OMG 2, alleging that the film evolved from a story he had originally conceptualised with filmmaker Amit Rai. According to the veteran actor, he neither received credit for the story nor the concept despite being involved in its early development. He further claimed that the project underwent significant changes after Akshay Kumar came on board, a development that ultimately prompted him to distance himself from the film.
Speaking to Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Paresh explained that his initial idea centred on a poignant father-son relationship, tackling themes such as sex education, public shaming and a father’s legal battle to seek justice for his child. Unlike the final version of OMG 2, he said his script did not include any divine figure or religious element and was never intended to serve as a sequel to OMG.

Paresh Rawal Claims That OMG 2 Was His Idea
Paresh Rawal said what disappointed him the most was not being acknowledged for the idea that eventually evolved into OMG 2. According to the actor, despite being involved in developing the original concept, he received no credit when the film was released.
“The saddest part is that I wasn’t even given credit for the story or the concept. My name wasn’t mentioned anywhere,” he said.
Paresh further claimed that several prominent names in the film industry were aware that the original idea had come from him. He also alleged that the subject matter had initially made a few actors hesitant to take up the project.
“Amit, Akshay, Ashwin, Ajay Devgn, Karan Johar and Salman Khan all know it was my idea and my story. Ajay and Salman probably said no because of the subject. They thought it could become controversial. I tried explaining the concept to them,” Paresh added.
The veteran actor revealed that he had first approached filmmaker Amit Rai, whose Road to Sangam had deeply impressed him, with the story. He explained that the original narrative revolved around a young schoolboy whose private moment is secretly filmed and circulated, leaving him humiliated and isolated, while his father fights to restore his dignity and challenge society’s judgment.
Paresh also recalled that Akshay Kumar later invited him to be a part of the project after it had been reworked. However, he declined the offer because he believed the film had drifted too far from the script he had helped shape.
“I spoke to Akshay. He asked me to do the film. I told him, ‘No. This isn’t the film I had envisioned. There is no role of God in this story.’ He tried to convince me, but I had lived with the script from the beginning. I knew exactly what it was supposed to be. That’s why I walked away,” he said.
About OMG 2
Following Paresh’s exit, Pankaj Tripathi stepped into the role of the father, while Akshay Kumar played the character of ‘Shiv ka Doot.’
Released in 2023, OMG 2 ran into certification hurdles with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) because of its blend of sex education and religious themes. After several modifications, including changing Akshay’s character from Lord Shiva to a divine messenger, the film was eventually cleared for release with an ‘A’ certificate.
The film was a superhit at the box office, collecting over ₹200 crore globally.
