Jennifer Rauchet, wife of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth since 2019, has faced online ridicule after her White House Correspondents’ Dinner gown was discovered for sale on budget retailer Temu.
The couple attended the prestigious event on Saturday, April 25, posing for photographers on the red carpet before the evening took a dramatic turn with a security incident.
Authorities have named the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old teacher and video game developer from California. He faces charges of assaulting a federal officer and deploying a firearm during a violent crime. His court appearance is set for today (Monday, April 27).
Among the prominent political figures and media professionals at the gathering was Hegseth’s spouse, Jennifer Rauchet, reports Irish Star.
Her ensemble featured a blush-toned off-the-shoulder gown with asymmetrical satin accents and crystal embellishments. Yet internet users rapidly identified the identical garment available on discount platform Temu.
One X user posted a side-by-side image of Hegseth and Rauchet next to a strikingly similar dress listed on Temu for €12.14 ($14.20), igniting a firestorm of reactions across the platform.
The post, captioned “Pete Hegseth’s wife wore a dress from Temu to the white house correspondents dinner (I’m not joking)” quickly drew a flood of responses from fellow X users.
“Everyone in the replies is going ‘noooo, Temu steals designs,’ she wore the original. Okay… show me the real designer one then? I’ll wait,” one commenter fired back, referencing allegations that Temu had copied another brand’s design.
The mockery continued, with one user quipping, “Oh, it’s the Temu shoe lady with her Temu husband,” while another expressed bewilderment, stating, “They have so much $, why would she do this to herself? It’s nonsensical to me.”
Not everyone was convinced, however. One user pointed to a strikingly similar gown by Ronald Joyce as the likely culprit behind the confusion. “It’s the Veni Infantino 992217S dress by Ronald Joyce. Stop posting this crap. Temu steals images and creates cheap knock-offs. I bet if you ordered that it would be made out of a thin bed sheet,” the user claimed, sharing an image of the Ronald Joyce design. Despite this, the Temu version bears a closer resemblance to photographs of Rauchet’s actual outfit.
This comes as Trump made a jaw-dropping joke in the wake of an unprecedented third assassination attempt.
