Pharrell Williams and Voices of Fire have released the official music video for “THE ONE,” the lead single from the choir’s latest album, Ophanim.
The track blends Voices of Fire’s soaring gospel sound with Pharrell’s signature production style, continuing a creative partnership that has helped bring the Virginia-based collective to audiences far beyond the church world. Founded by Bishop Ezekiel Williams — Pharrell’s uncle — the choir first gained national attention through Netflix’s Voices of Fire and has since become one of the most recognizable names in contemporary gospel music.
For Williams, that vision has always been about more than the music itself. Speaking to RELEVANT for our 2020 cover story, he said the goal of Voices of Fire was to capture something deeper.
“I always said the number one thing that we needed to capture was the Spirit,” Williams said. “We wanted people to see that. We wanted people to feel that and we wanted people to hear that.”
While growing up in church, Williams learned from a young age that there is a unique power in joining together for worship.
“When you see a group of people singing, the power of the human voice is magnified,” he said. “It does something to you.”
