WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester Railers hosted the Reading Royals on Thursday evening at the DCU Center in Worcester. The Railers, who are fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive, needed a momentum boost, which was provided by defenseman Case McCarthy. McCarthy scored three goals during the game for the first hat trick by a defenseman in the Railers 34-year franchise history, and propelling the Railers to a 5-3 victory over the Royals. Parker Gahagen in net for Worcester would pick up the win with 23 saves, and Carson Bjarnason had 29 saves for Reading.
The other two Worcester goals also came from a defenseman, with Jesse Pulkkinen and Michael Suda both scoring. The Reading Royals three goals came from Carson Golder, Jeremy Michel, and Ben Meehan.
