Platform Personalities Hosts an evening with Max Greenfield – The North Wind

For all the New girl, Ice age,and Neighborhood fans, a familiar face recently made an appearance at NMU. Known for iconic one-liners and a funny personality Max Greenfield paid a visit to talk about his roles and careers with nmu students and the marquette community.  

Students and community members had the chance to hear directly from Max Greenfield during “An Evening With Max Greenfield,” hosted by Platform Personalities. The event took place Tuesday, April 7, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. in the Northern Center Grand Ballrooms, offering attendees an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at Greenfield’s career and experiences in the entertainment industry. 

Best known for his role as Schmidt on the hit comedy series New Girl, Greenfield has built a reputation for his sharp comedic timing and memorable performances. The event featured a moderated interview format, giving audiences insight into his creative process, career trajectory and life in Hollywood. 

“I had been working really hard, and I thought I was doing a lot of the right things. I had gotten so close to so many things and then New girl came around and it was just the right fit. It was the right day, and the people dug what I was doing and it changed everything.” Max Greenfield responded after being asked about his experience going into the hit show. 

Through discussion and storytelling, attendees gained a deeper understanding of the work that goes into building a successful acting career—from auditions and early roles to navigating long-running television success.

Beyond his on-screen work, Greenfield has also expanded into children’s literature, becoming the author of books such as I Don’t Want to Read This Book. His writing reflects the same wit and playful tone that define his acting, aiming to make reading fun and accessible for younger audiences. 

“If I was ever going to do a children’s book it would be called ‘I don’t want to read this book and it would be all the reasons why a child doesn’t want to read a book, but by the end of that book they will read a book.”  

“But I remember the next day, I was making the kids dinner and I remember thinking, you know this is a really good idea. It’s a shame nothing will ever happen with that” Said Greenfield.  

While much of Greenfield’s career has been defined by comedy, the discussion also touched on the broader realities of the profession—balancing creative passion with the demands of the industry, adapting to new roles and continuing to evolve as a performer. These insights offered attendees a more refined view of what life in entertainment truly looks like beyond the screen.
