Homer Gere, the son of Richard Gere, has his first leading role in The Shards, Ryan Murphy’s new drama.
A trailer reveals Homer as Robert Mallory, a mysterious new transfer student who just might be a serial killer.
The Shards is based on Bret Easton Ellis’ fictionalized memoir about his senior year of high school.
Homer Gere made a viral splash on the final season of Euphoria, but now the son of legendary actor Richard Gere is taking the lead for the first time.
The younger Gere, 26, appears in the debut trailer for The Shards, Ryan Murphy‘s new drama coming to FX and Hulu in August. Adapting Bret Easton Ellis‘ 2021 novel of the same name, the series is set in 1980s Los Angeles and follows the popular and privileged seniors at an elite prep school.
The book itself is a fictionalized memoir of the American Psycho and Less Than Zero author’s final year of high school, with a serial killer narrative thrown in.

Igby Rigney, known for roles in various Mike Flanagan TV shows (Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club), plays a young Bret, depicted as an aspiring writer. He maintains a healthy sex life between girlfriend Debbie Schaffer (Hayes Warner) and various male hookups behind closed doors, while also pining for both Susan Reynolds (Kaia Gerber) and her boyfriend, Thom Wright (Graham Campbell), other members of their inner circle.
The group’s “paradisaical” last hurrah (as Ellis describes it in his novel) begins to falter with the arrival of Gere’s Robert Mallory, a mysterious and magnetic new student. “This is all a game to him. He’s psycho,” Bret declares, having come to suspect Robert could be a local serial killer known as the Trawler.
Gere previously had a small but notable role oin Euphoria season 3 as Hollywood actor Dylan Reid, whom Cassie Howard (Sydney Sweeney) uses to make herself famous. Their sex scene went viral and prompted many an online thirst trap around Gere.
The Shards could similarly prove to be a sensationalized and provocative romp, given the tone of the source material and the general vibe of both Ellis’ literary works and Murphy’s shows.
