‘To Infinity And Beyond’: How Taylor Swift Turned a Lifelong Love of ‘Toy Story’ Into Her Latest Project

Originally formed in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2012, by English singer-songwriter Alex Moran, Quiet As A Mouse is the creative vehicle for Moran to explore indie, alternative rock, grunge, punk, emo and alt. country flavours.

After releasing two EPs, an album and playing with the likes of Hinds, The Orwells, Palma Violets, The Big Moon, The Orielles, Coasts and The Crookes, Alex relocated to Brisbane in 2019.

Life abroad wasn’t new to him however, having lived in a diverse range of places including Leamington Spa as well as Stanthorpe, Warwick, Hobart and Adelaide as a young adult, then spending 13 years in Edinburgh before the move to Brisbane.

A six-track mini album titled ‘Passport’ followed in 2022. Now Alex is nearing the release of the next Quiet As A Mouse project, the album ‘Nostalgia Is Fine…But…’ that will be released on 29 May (pre-save it).

He’s filmed a music video for album track ‘Peter Pan’, a swirly, emo-tinged indie rock heater that’ll crawl underneath your emotional barriers seeking comfort.

A grainy, coarse acoustic melody weaves into an alt-rock burner, post-punk tones merging with an indie heartbeat as sparse drumming is pared to gorgeously strummed guitars.

Alex’s raw, authentic vocals add emotive feels, a cathartic release of energy travelling through his voice as the lyrics paint a vivid image: ‘Peter Pan / I hope you understand / You’re not just another man.’

When the guitars turn into a noodling adventure, the Britpop feels are heightened, that release of energy contagious – you may even find your arms are outstretched as if you’re aboard the Titanic.

“When I first came up with the song, I thought the verse chord pattern was moody and dark, which made me think of Ozzy Osbourne and Alice In Chains,” Alex says.

“It obviously doesn’t sound anything like those two influences, but the lyrical darkness and moodiness was definitely inspired by them.

“The chorus felt more ’90s Britrock and again in my head made me think it sounded a bit like ‘Urban Hymns’ era of The Verve.”

Ahead of the music video’s release tomorrow (22 May), today scenestr is delighted to premiere the ‘Peter Pan’ clip. Enjoy.

Shot on an iPhone 17 at sunset on the stunning Peregian Beach (Sunshine Coast), there’s a hint of Coldplay’s ‘Yellow’ film clip as Alex trudges along the beach, the gorgeous backdrop the salted aspect of the dark chocolate-flavoured lyrics: ‘Sleep is my heroin / Turn off all the lights when they’re not in use / Falling in an out of love / When will my book end.’

“With shooting the video, me and my girlfriend did it together on her iPhone 17; she did such a great job; if you look closely a few strands of her hair make a cameo in the video as it was so windy that day, haha!”

A mostly studio-only project, Alex admits Quiet As A Mouse is more of a writing, recording and releasing outlet at the moment, with no live shows planned.

His attention is set on the release of ‘Nostalgia Is Fine…But…’. “‘The title of the album sums it up well; it’s about looking back and having memories, but not staying there too long and always trying to move forward. It’s also a key hook in the album track ‘1999’.”
