King Charles has made it clear that Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, are not welcome at the Royal family’s traditional Christmas celebrations.
Insiders close to the King have revealed his desire to distance himself from the pair following new revelations that the duchess maintained contact with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein after publicly denouncing him in 2011.
A source told the Sunday Times: “You can’t sack someone from being your brother. But this year, if the duke and duchess were both to be as honorable [as last year], it would be very much for the best.” The news emerges as Jeffrey Epstein threatened to ‘destroy’ Sarah Ferguson’s family in ‘Hannibal Lecter’ call.
The Prince of Wales is reportedly backing this decision, expressing concern and frustration over the Yorks’ behavior causing lasting harm to the Royal Family’s reputation.
The King has also suggested that the pair adopt an “out of sight, out of mind” approach to any future family events they may attend, according to the Mirror.
However, it was disclosed last weekend that she had subsequently emailed Epstein, apologizing for her public criticism and referring to him as her “steadfast, generous and supreme friend”.
The duchess wrote: “As you know I did not, absolutely not, say the P [pedophile] word about you … I know you feel hellaciously let down by me. And I must humbly apologize to you and your heart for that.”
Virginia Giuffre, who has since passed away, alleged that she was forced into sexual encounters with Prince Andrew at the insistence of Epstein. The Prince has persistently and vehemently refuted these claims.
Eyebrows were raised earlier this month when the pair made a noticeable entrance alongside other royals at the Duchess of Kent’s funeral at Westminster Cathedral.
After the ceremony, Andrew was seen trying to engage in light-hearted conversation with the Prince of Wales, who completely ignored his uncle.
The King has further expressed his wish for the former couple, who separated in 1996, to remain “invisible” at upcoming family events by using discreet entrances and exits whenever possible.
Prince Andrew was noticeably absent from last year’s Christmas festivities due to his ties with alleged Chinese spy, Yang Tengbo.
Following the recent reconciliation between the King and his younger son, Prince Andrew may have been hopeful for a similar act of forgiveness.
However, it appears that Prince Charles’s tolerance for the Duke of York and his ex-wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, whose past actions continue to tarnish the monarchy, has worn thin.
Close friends of the duchess revealed yesterday that she was “devastated for any embarrassment” caused and would “explain herself to the wider royal family in due course”.
Last week, it was discovered that the duchess had sent an email to Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted pedophile, referring to him as a “supreme friend” and apologizing for her public criticism of him.
In a March 2011 interview, Sarah confessed to making a “terrible, terrible error of judgment” by accepting £15,000 from Epstein, stating: “I abhor pedophilia.”
