Earl Spencer disclosed a harsh three-word description for King Charles during a recent interview on the Rosebud podcast. Princess Diana‘s younger sibling shared with host Gyles Brandreth his choice to abandon a conventional eulogy format and instead “speak to her” through his remarks.
While discussing his emotions after his sister’s tragic passing in 1997, the 61-year-old recalled, “I was living in South Africa – I flew back from Cape Town overnight. [A] very, very sweet stewardess helping me because I was in bits.”
He went on, “I like to keep busy. In those days, I had a big, thick address book and I thought I wanted to find someone who was going to give the speech for her. I got to ‘Z’ and I hadn’t found anyone.” It comes with claims from a royal expert that Prince Harry and Prince William are ‘heartsick’ over the latest news about Princess Diana.
He remembered that following discussions with his mother, she and his sisters determined he would deliver the address.
After drafting a conventional eulogy, he subsequently recognized it was “ridiculous” and “not who she was”, reports the Express.
He then noted: “Then overnight I must have been chuntering away and then realized that my job wasn’t actually to do that, but it was to almost speak for her.
“I knew I’d be left at that stage; it had no legal standing, but I knew she’d left me as guardian of her sons [William and Harry]. Obviously, the other parent being alive meant nothing. But it meant something to me.”
His dismissive reference to the then-Prince Charles as “the other parent” sparked attention across social media platforms. One person wrote, “His shade is unmatched.”
