Prince George will attend Eton College from September with
Kensington Palace announcing the plans as the summer school term
draws to a close.
After months of speculation, the Prince and Princess of Wales
have confirmed they’ve chosen Eton for their elder son.
George, 12, will begin there in September as a boarder.
The prince, who is second in line to the throne, will be
following in the footsteps of his father, Prince William, who
attended the prestigious school for five years.
It’s understood that it was Diana, Princess of Wales who pressed
for her two sons to attend Eton. Prince Harr followed his older
brother there. The school currently charges around £63,000 per year
in fees.
Just weeks ago, Prince William revealed that George is already
getting used to boarding, staying overnight occasionally at his
current school, Lambrook.
However, the move to Eton will mark the first longer term
boarding for Prince George.
It’s the latest step in a school career that has seen the young
prince attend a range of establishments. He was a pupil at Thomas’
School in Battersea between 2017 and 2022 before moving to
Lambrook. His start at the school co-incided with another big
change. The day after he began, Queen Elizabeth II died and the
prince went from third to second in line to the throne.
His sister, Princess Charlotte, and younger brother, Prince
Louis, are also pupils at Lambrook.
While Prince William attended Eton, before moving on to study at
St. Andrew’s University in Scotland, King Charles was a pupil at
Gordonstoun and later studied at Cambridge University.
Queen Elizabeth II was largely educated at home by private
tutors.
The decision to send George to Eton establishes a new tradition
of future heirs attending the school which was set up in the 15th
century by another king, Henry VI.
