Prince Harry has offered a heartfelt apology to the Canadian public after he was spotted wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers cap during the 2025 World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays last week.

Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were seen enthusiastically cheering for the LA Dodgers, sporting team hats in a show of solidarity.

Given Meghan’s Los Angeles roots, it’s not surprising that the pair would rally behind her hometown team. However, their choice sparked some controversy due to their close ties with Canada.

On Thursday, during a visit to Sunnybrook Hospital’s veterans center in Toronto, Harry was questioned about the incident after receiving a Toronto Blue Jays hat as a gift.

When asked by CTV News about the situation, Harry responded with an apology, humorously claiming he was “under duress” at the game and had limited options.

He stated, “Firstly, I would like to apologize to Canada for wearing it. Secondly, I was under duress, there wasn’t much choice. I was invited to the box by the [LA Dodgers] owner, so I was doing what I thought was the polite thing to do. But [taking the Toronto Blue Jays hat] I’m going to wear this from now on.”

He also quipped, “When you’re missing a lot of hair on top and you’re sitting under lights, you’ll take any hat that’s available. Now that I’ve admitted that, it’s going to be really hard for me to return to Los Angeles.”

During his touching visit, the Duke of Sussex met with a 101-year-old Canadian World War 2 navy veteran and other former servicemen and women ahead of Remembrance Day.

Harry beamed with joy as he observed veterans participating in creative pursuits including painting, ceramics and photography at Toronto’s Sunnybrook Veterans Centre.

He examined military helmets worn by veterans to represent their service experiences and memories of fallen comrades and was photographed assisting with one participant’s creative work.

The Duke of Sussex’s encounters included meeting Brenda Reid, 101, who served at a women-operated naval facility in Nova Scotia during the Second World War, and Harold Toth, 95, a Korean War veteran who joined the Queen’s Own Rifles.

When Harry inquired about their wartime experiences, Ms Reid offered a lighthearted caution regarding her fellow residents, “You can’t always believe the boys.”

The engagement formed part of his two-day Toronto visit to connect with veterans, armed forces community members and military charities during the “Remembrancetide” period spanning the fortnight before Remembrance Sunday.

This followed Harry’s expression of pride in serving his nation and his warning about how readily veterans can be overlooked “once the uniform comes off.”

Harry, who completed two frontline deployments to Afghanistan, wrote in an essay about serving alongside personnel from across the UK.

He appealed to people to honor “not only the fallen, but the living” who bear the “weight of war” and encouraged them to visit veterans’ homes and “join them for a cuppa… or a pint” to listen to their accounts and “remind them their service still matters.”
