It’s hard to believe that it was just eight years ago today that Meghan Markle became the Duchess of Sussex, marrying her prince—or rather the Prince Harry—with a grand royal wedding at Windsor Castle.
The couple, who tied the knot on May 19, 2018, have celebrated the milestone by letting their followers behind the curtain. Earlier in the day, Meghan shared a handful of never-before-seen images from their wedding, and now, she’s posted a few videos to her Instagram Stories, showcasing the incredibly thoughtful present her beau surprised her with.
In one video, Harry was seen presenting Meghan with a lemon elderflower cake in their kitchen, singing a rendition of “Happy Birthday” with the words swapped out to say “Happy Anniversary.” Their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, sang along—instructing their parents to blow out the candles.
Next up, Meghan opened a bronze sculpture of two penguins intertwined, gushing at the gift. “When mama and papa, when we got engaged, we had a party with all of our friends,” Meghan explained to the kids, who eagerly assessed the new present. “We said everyone has to wear onesies, and we were penguins because we’re together for life.”
(Penguins are known to engage in a “pebbling” courtship ritual, in which male penguins present a potential mate with the shiniest pebble they can find. If accepted, they mate for life.)
In the card, Harry included a mirror selfie from the event, where the newly-engaged couple posed in their penguin suits. We’re obsessed.
“Eight years ago today,” Meghan captioned both of her photo dumps, in which the newlyweds were seen dancing, kissing, giving speeches, and looking so in love on the big day.
