Prince Harry is thankful for Canada.
The Duke of Sussex was invited to the country by the True Patriot Love Foundation. During his trip, Harry has attended events connected to Remembrance Day, which is the British equivalent of the United States’s Veterans Day. And last night, he was the guest of honor at the 17th annual True Patriot Love Foundation National Tribute Dinner held in Toronto.
In his speech, the prince, who is a veteran—having served for 10 years in the British Army—and a founding patron of the Invictus Games, thanked Canada for all it’s given him.
“Truthfully and jokes aside, this city will always mean a great deal to me. You provided a wife for me and you hosted the Invictus Games in 2017, touchstones in my life both professionally and personally,” he said, giving a shoutout to wife Duchess Meghan.
Harry and Meghan famously met on a blind date in London in 2016, when Meghan was still living in Toronto and working as an actress in Suits. The two navigated long distance for about a year and made their first official appearance as a couple at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto. In November 2017, the prince proposed, and Meghan left Canada to move to the U.K. with the royal. The couple married in 2018, becoming the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and subsequently welcomed their two kids, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.
While they now live in Montecito, California, Harry has made several visits to Canada since, in support of his Invictus Games. Last February, Meghan accompanied him, and the two returned this February to the games in Vancouver.
