Prince Harry has finally won his years-long battle to guarantee security for his family in the UK, according to reports, opening the doors for a royal family reunion.
The Mail on Sunday reported the 41-year-old has won his bid for automatic taxpayer-funded armed police protection when he visits the UK, with the ruling expected to be announced officially in the coming weeks, according to the outlet’s sources.
They shared that the reinstatement of armed security occured after a fresh risk assessment was carried out for the royal and VIP executive committee (Ravec), with sources adding the Home Office has security “nailed on” for the Duke of Sussex.

This reinstatement of security could mean a reunion for the Sussex family and the royal family, with Harry so far refusing to bring his children – Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, to the UK after they moved to the US.
In his May 2025 interview with the BBC – after he had lost his court battle arguing for the reinstatement of security for his family – Harry shared with the outlet, “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point.
“I love my country, I always have done, despite what some people in that country have done.”

Though Harry has since had a chance to reconcile with his father King Charles after his cancer diagnosis and treatment, the same can’t be said for his children, who only saw their grandfather as babies.
The news of the overturning may not be happy news for everyone, with royal author Christopher Andersen, who wrote the book Brothers and Wives, saying that Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex may feel reserved.
“This puts Meghan in a rather awkward position, since I really don’t think she is eager to return to what she sees as a somewhat hostile environment,” Anderson told US Weekly.
“Charles is a huge softy when it comes to his grandkids, so I’m sure they’d be welcomed with open arms,” he added, though he does not think the same will go for Harry or Meghan.
The author does not believe Harry will “ever be fully embraced by the royal family and allowed to return to some sort of semi-official role. That ship has sailed – and that goes double for Meghan.”
Harry’s battle began after he and his wife Meghan stepped down from their roles as senior working royals in 2020, after which they lost their right to government-funded security.

In April 2025, he travelled to the UK for a two-day court case on the issue, but in May it was announced that Harry had lost the bid in court.
“This process has only ever been about ensuring my safety and that of my immediate family when we are in the United Kingdom, so that we may safely visit my home country with the same level of security that other governments deem necessary for our protection,” Harry wrote in a statement after the court decision went public.
