The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are celebrating another year of marriage today, Tuesday, May 19.
The 44-year-old former Royal took to Instagram to share pictures from the wedding reception, marking eight years since their headline-making royal wedding captivated audiences around the globe and cemented their place as one of the world’s most closely watched couples.
The happy couple took center stage in the snaps as they danced and hugged. One snap showed the couple enjoying a passionate kiss, with their guests surrounding them. Captioning the post, Meghan wrote, “Eight years ago today…” and added a crescent moon emoji.
But the couple has had quite the journey since saying “I do,” navigating royal exits, headline-making interviews, public scrutiny, and career pivots while remaining firmly in the global spotlight.
The Sussexes first captivated the world’s attention with their first-ever public interview. The interview, with BBC’s Mishal Husain, was widely viewed and got tongues wagging around the world.
Now, on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s anniversary, a body language expert notes the key gestures that show Meghan’s attempts to boost an anxious Harry’s confidence during that interview.
Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, Darren Stanton notes that 41-year-old Harry regularly tucked his hand into his jacket, which he claims is a “textbook protective gesture” that both he and William have inherited from Charles.
In contrast, he claims Meghan was his polar opposite, with “long and purposeful” strides and “open and welcoming” gestures demonstrating her self-assurance.
“Meghan demonstrates a lot of open palm movements, which show her to be totally at home and at ease. She has always been very consistent. I guess her background as an actress means she is used to the bright lights of fame, but equally, it could be that she is better at concealing her nerves,” Stanton said.
He adds that Meghan was “very supportive” of Harry.
“Her hands were interlocked tightly around his throughout. You can see that she senses his nerves. Her confident strides and open gestures could also have been part of this, trying to exude confidence to help bolster Harry’s,” Stanton added.
