Prince Harry recently visited Canada to commemorate Remembrance Day in Toronto, with a source suggesting the trip was also used to send a message to King Charles.
The Duke of Sussex visited Canada last week, where he met with members of the armed forces to mark the British equivalent of Veterans Day. Harry was also treated to demonstrations from the Canada’s Reserve Forces dive team, as well as a deck team weapons display.
A source has claimed Harry’s Toronto visit was “something of a marker in the sand, a statement of intent,” as he reportedly tries to show King Charles he has “value.”
A source told The Telegraph Harry came across as a “grown-up statesman” on his trip.
They suggested the Duke of Sussex went with the intention of “proving his value” to his father, while “demonstrating where his life was headed.”
The source suggested Harry’s visit could be seen as a “subtle pitch to his father” about how useful he could be to the royal family.
The Duke of Sussex is currently estranged from his father, but they have shown signs they’re trying to mend their relationship. In September, Harry reunited with Charles at a private meeting at Clarence House in London, England.
Harry has also spoken openly about his desire to reunite with the royal family, previously telling the BBC, “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious.”
During Harry’s Canada trip, he was pictured with members of Canada’s Reserve Forces, having met with soldiers from the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada and the Royal Regiment of Canada.
He heard all about the unique demands and rewards of Reserve service. Harry met with Commander Paul Smith and Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrew Payton, who gave the Duke of Sussex a rundown of how the unit is training sailors for Royal Canadian Navy operations.
While speaking to military charity True Patriot Love in Canada, he said, “Service, at its heart, is reciprocal.”
Harry continued, “Those who serve protect our freedom, our safety, our way of life. And in return, we—as civilians—must protect their future. Through meaningful employment, mental health support, and community reintegration, we can honor not just their service, but their vast potential beyond it.”
The Duke of Sussex also recently opened up about life in the UK as he reflected in an essay on what it means to be British.
Harry revealed “banter” in pubs and good-humored “self-deprecation” are among the things he loves about Britain.
