According to one expert, should Prince Harry fail to properly mend fences with the Royal Family, his children risk growing up in California without ever knowing their Royal relatives.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle currently reside in Montecito, California, alongside their two young children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.
The pair ultimately made their home in the US following their departure from Royal duties in 2020.
Royal expert Hugo Vickers told the Sun’s Royal Exclusive: “If I were being brought up in California, and I suddenly discovered that my first cousin was likely to be King one day, I would like to get to know him, obviously.”
He had earlier suggested that the children might encounter challenges down the road upon discovering their parents’ choice to walk away from royalty.
He said: “Even when he was over here, people were comparing the engagements that he was doing with what the Prince of Wales and Catherine were doing.
“And it’s very counterproductive. But having said that, you know, I’m all for him reconciling with his father because he carries a lot of emotional baggage around with him anyway, the death of his mother. He’s probably looks pretty unhappy in his present life out in Montecito.”
Mr Vickers added: “I also worry about the children because there’s going to come a point when they’re going to say, Why haven’t I met my grandfather on either side?”.
“And so he’s storing up a lot of, you know, emotional problems for them, I think.”
During an ABC special that aired on September 21, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently reflected on bringing their children to Disneyland for Lilibet’s fourth birthday.
The family outing sparked cherished memories for both parents, including Harry’s 1993 trip to Disney World with Princess Diana and Prince William.
For Meghan, who was raised in Los Angeles, her visit back to Disneyland felt deeply sentimental. She said: “I’m a Southern California girl, so being able to go to Disneyland is a lot more accessible than it is for most people, but it’s still the biggest treat in the world”.
Prince Harry shared how his children were thrilled before stepping into the park. “They’re like, ‘This is amazing!'” he recalled.
“I told them, ‘Guys, this isn’t even the front of it. Prepare yourself. You’re about to be blown away.'”.
