Prince Harry’s latest announcement allegedly shows his “deep regrets” for leaving Britain behind, a royal expert has claimed. The Duke of Sussex penned a personal essay last week ahead of Remembrance Day, where he expressed his pride at fighting for his country in a personal essay, and warned how easy it is for veterans to be forgotten “once the uniform comes off”.
Harry, who undertook two frontline tours to Afghanistan, spoke about serving alongside men and women from all four corners of the UK. He called on people to remember “not only the fallen, but the living” who carry the “weight of war” and urged them to knock on veterans’ doors and “join them for a cuppa… or a pint” to hear their stories and “remind them their service still matters”.
In the personal, 647-word piece titled The Bond, The Banter, The Bravery: What it means to be British – By Prince Harry, the duke acknowledged that although he “currently” lives in the US, he reflects that “Britain is, and always will be, the country I proudly served and fought for”.
He described Remembrance as “not simply a minute’s silence” but “a call to collective responsibility”.
Now, a royal expert has claimed that the duke’s letter shows that he feels homesick and he lives his new life in California, after quitting the Royal Family in 2020.
Veteran royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox News: “Harry’s essay on Remembrance Day showed him at his best and also highlighted his status as an exile.
“Exiles feel deep regret. He knows the military was the making of him after the trauma he suffered following the death of his mother, which still haunts him. He has given back with the Invictus Games, a remarkable achievement.
“His words clearly came from the heart and were all the more moving for that. His respect and affection for Queen Elizabeth II, whom he called ‘my Commander-in-Chief,’ is undoubted.”
Mr Fitzwilliams added that Harry “widened his already deep rift” with the royals by releasing his bombshell memoir in 2023 and said it allowed him to have global reach but in a “destructive way”.
He went on to say: “So he is bound to have very deep regrets. The state of his father’s health is bound to add to them.”
The King is undergoing treatment for cancer, which was diagnosed and announced to the public last year.
Speaking to the BBC earlier this year, Harry said: “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” he said. “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”
Since then, he met up with his father once during his four-day trip to the UK in September. It is not known what the father and son talked about.
