Prince Harry’s turbulent week in Britain ended with the family meeting he had long wanted, but the victory came with a potentially punishing price tag.
The Duke of Sussex reportedly reunited with King Charles, Queen Camilla, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet at Highgrove, giving the monarch a rare private meeting with his grandchildren.

Yet that emotional moment was overshadowed by Harry’s defeat in his privacy case against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Daily Mail.
The case was brought by Harry and several other high-profile claimants, including Elton John, Elizabeth Hurley, Sadie Frost and Baroness Doreen Lawrence.
They alleged unlawful information gathering, but Justice Matthew Nicklin dismissed the claims in a ruling that dealt a major blow to the group.
“Suspicion, even where understandable, was not enough,” the court summary stated.
Now the focus has turned to costs, and reports suggest the bill could run into millions. One legal source told Page Six that outside backers may be needed.
“The people funding the case will likely help Harry with costs,” the source said.
The same source also suggested Elton John could become important, adding: “Elton John could also well help Harry out. They’re extremely close.”
Harry faces financial pressure after court loss
The legal defeat arrived during an already messy UK visit. Harry’s representatives announced he had accepted an invitation to stay at Buckingham Palace, only for the offer to be withdrawn shortly afterward.
Other reports pointed to operational issues and missed deadlines, while palace insiders were also reportedly concerned about the optics of Harry staying there on the day of the ruling.
The financial implications may be more serious. Page Six reported that Harry could face up to $20 million in legal fees, depending on how costs are finalized and how responsibility is divided between claimants.
“Harry definitely doesn’t have the money for it,” one well-placed insider told Page Six, adding that Meghan Markle would “likely be very furious about the fees. She did not want him to pursue the case.”
A representative for the Sussexes declined to comment on that allegation.
Harry previously said in his 2021 interview with CBS that money left by Princess Diana helped fund his move away from royal life, saying: “I’ve got what my mum left me, and without that we would not have been able to do this.”

The week was not without a personal breakthrough. Charles privately hosted Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet at Highgrove, with no photos released and few official details shared.
The reunion didn’t include Prince William, who was elsewhere with Kate Middleton. The distance between the brothers remains one of the unresolved fractures inside the royal family.
