Prince William and Harry’s tension dates way farther than many believe.
It’s been six years since the Duke of Sussex, 41, and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back from their royal titles and relocated to Montecito, California. Ever since Harry made the decision to marry Meghan and flee the U.K., Harry’s strained relationship with his brother, 43, has become apparent and even worsened.
Now that the two are set for a reconciliation four years after their last meeting, royal expert Christopher Andersen has revealed when their feud actually began. The author shared that the sibling rivalry started in the 1980s.
While speaking to Radar Online, the expert said, “People didn’t really acknowledge the fact that there was all this tension between Harry and William ever since they were small children, wrestling in the back of the car.”
Christopher said it was “made very clear” to Harry that “he was lesser than” William. This reportedly “left a real mark on them and really kind of doomed their relationship, ultimately.”
When Kate Middleton married into the family in 2011, she “wanted them to make amends.”
The princess seemed to change her mind once she met Meghan.
During an interview with the BBC in 2017, the duke said his older brother and sister-in-law were “longing to meet” Meghan.
Harry claimed their first meeting went very well, and his wife chimed in, affirming his description of Kate as “wonderful.”
“She’s been wonderful,” she said.
The prince then added, “Amazing, as has William as well, you know, fantastic support. The whole family has come together and has been a huge amount of support.”
The couple wasn’t entirely forthcoming at that time, as Harry and Meghan have since admitted to the rocky relationships they shared with their family members. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the actress revealed that Kate had been upset about something, but was later appeased after Kate apologized and gave her flowers.

“It wasn’t a confrontation,” Meghan shared. “I don’t think it’s fair to her to get into the details of that, because she apologized.”
“What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn’t do, but that happened to me.”
Two years after their 2018 royal wedding, the couple stepped back from their royal titles and relocated to Montecito, California.
Prince Harry is allegedly considering moving his children back to the UK to get the “best education.”
A source told the Daily Mail, “I can tell you that Harry wants to educate the children here in the UK.”
He reportedly believes the two are “missing out on the extensive family network that their niece and nephews are enjoying.”
