And after an annus horribilis for the royals, observers say Kate will be a queen who may be ‘more ambitious and bold than any of us appreciates’.
As a YouGov poll saw the princess top the family popularity ratings for the first time ahead of her husband at 68 per cent approval to his 62 per cent, some of those who know her gave an intimate glimpse of what lies ahead.
‘If there’s one thing William and Kate understand perhaps better than anyone else in the Royal Family, it’s the value of their own brand,’ said a source close to the couple.
‘It reminds me a bit of David and Victoria Beckham. I think the public can spot a genuine relationship and a genuinely strong marriage, two people who fit well together.’

And children’s author Giovanna Fletcher, who persuaded Kate to speak about her early-years project in 2020, said impressions she was aloof were unfounded, adding: ‘She’s full of heart. I think she’ll be a queen who really listens.’
She forecast the couple would go on to head the monarchy with ‘their eyes completely open’, telling The Times: ‘They understand things. I think it will be a welcome change.’
