Prince William’s tense seven-word response to Meghan Markle’s allegations against the Royal Family unveiled a “molten anger” directed at his sister-in-law, according to a Royal expert.
Five years ago, William reacted to Meghan’s claim that senior members of the Royal Family had expressed concerns about “how dark” her son Archie’s skin might be.
This allegation came to light during Meghan’s interview with talk show host Oprah Winfrey, shortly after she and Prince Harry decided to leave the UK.
In 2020, the Sussexes moved to Montecito, California, announcing they were “stepping back” from their roles as senior royals.
Following Harry and Meghan’s interview, Buckingham Palace described the claims as “concerning”, stating that the matter would be addressed privately, as reported by the Express, reports the Mirror.
On Channel 5’s Royal Heirs and Spares: Rivalry and Resentment, he stated: “That moment when William said the Royal Family isn’t racist, that revealed molten anger.”
He continued: “He also appreciated the harm and the damage that the accusation had caused for that family. That was absolutely extraordinary, those few words, that little response, told us a huge amount.”
The relationship between William and Harry is thought to have crumbled dramatically over recent years.
In his explosive tell-all book Spare, Harry even alleged his brother physically attacked him during a fierce confrontation in 2019.
Harry wrote: “He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”
William seemed to deliver a subtle dig at his estranged sibling during a recent visit to the Army Air Corps in Wattisham, Suffolk.
The Prince was speaking to service members and their families at Harry’s former unit.
Dressed in military camouflage and wearing the distinctive blue AAC beret, the prince asked whether one soldier was able to spend adequate time with his loved ones.
He then joked, “Some of them might not want to see you that much. It’s a mixed bag sometimes.”
William’s remark, made in June, came just weeks after Harry voiced his hope for “love reconciliation” with his family.
“Life is precious,” the Duke of Sussex had stated.
“I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. But it would be nice to reconcile.”
