The royal family is pulling out the crown jewels − literally.
In a joint appearance for the Nigerian State dinner in the United Kingdom, both Princess Kate and Queen Camilla donned bejeweled tiaras for the first time this year. In a lavish banquet hosted at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, March 18, the two royals were joined by their husbands, Prince William and King Charles, to welcome the president of the African country in style.
Kate, 44, opted for the Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara, one she’s worn several times since marrying into the royal family in 2011. The stately piece is heavily encrusted with diamonds and features a wreath of pearls hanging just above the base.
Commissioned for Queen Mary in 1913, the tiara was later handed down to Queen Elizabeth, who gave it to the late Princess Diana, according to Vogue. Now in Kate’s possession, she first donned it in 2015, and has since relied on it heavily for formal appearances, the outlet reports.
Kate paired the piece with a simple, forest green frock. The pleated dress featured billowing sleeves and a high neckline, and was adorned with a blue sash and a bejeweled clutch.
Kate wasn’t the only one with pricey headwear. Queen Camilla also marked her first tiara wear of the year, opting for the Belgian Sapphire Tiara with matching earrings. The ornate piece features sizable blue gemstones interwoven in a sea of diamonds. The jewels come from the late Queen Elizabeth’s collection.
Queen Camilla ahead of the state banquet for the president of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu at Windsor Castle on March 18, 2026.
The royal foursome welcomed Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife, first lady Oluremi Tinubu, to Windsor Castle in the first state visit of 2026.
The event comes as the palace has been rocked by scandal, following the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, by British police on suspicion of misconduct in public life. He has since been released from custody.
The former prince has faced intense scrutiny over his friendship with the late convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein. Mountbatten-Windsor, who was stripped of his royal titles in October, has denied any wrongdoing and said he regrets the friendship; he has not been charged.
Andrew has not responded to previous requests for comment following the release of the Epstein files, which the U.S. Justice Department published as part of its sweeping investigation of Epstein’s records and communications.
