While she is best-known now for being The Princess of Wales, the princess is often heard being called her first name Catherine while on royal duty. Over the years, some people have also referred to her as Kate, which some royal fans think is disrespectful.
However, it is believed that behind closed doors, Catherine has no problem with being called Kate, and even introduced herself as that to a former royal staff member.
Speaking exclusively to Smooth Spins Casino, Grant Harrold – who was a royal butler for King Charles between 2004 and 2011, when he was the Prince of Wales – said that the future Queen asked him to call her Kate.
He said: “She was always known as Kate. William always called her Kate. This Catherine thing only began after the wedding.
“I think after their Coronation, she will be Queen Catherine. But until then, it was always Kate behind the scenes.
“I used to call her Kate. I was one of the few who were allowed to use first names rather than titles. When I first met her, she introduced herself to me as Kate – and asked me to call her that.”
Grant also said that Catherine, along with Prince William and Prince Harry, didn’t mind people not using their royal titles away from the royal spotlight.
He said: “When speaking directly to members of the Royal Family, we used their official titles unless told otherwise.
“However it was only William, Harry and Kate who wanted the less formal name option.”
