The Princess of Wales shared a touching moment with a 100-year-old woman during a Buckingham Palace reception. The King and Queen Camilla hosted a reception on Tuesday (April 21) to honour the late Queen Elizabeth on what would have been her 100th birthday.

In attendance were the Prince and Princess of Wales, Princess Anne, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and Brits celebrating their 100th birthdays. Princess Kate spoke to one attendee, Joan Illingworth and asked for her self-care secrets. She gave the woman a sweet, three-word compliment: “You look amazing.” Mrs Illingworth also spoke with Prince William, and he said: “I can’t believe you are 100, do I need to call security, have you snuck in?” She added afterwards: “The Prince of Wales said I looked well for my age and asked what was my secret.” According to Hello!, she revealed that eating clotted cream fudge and Liquorice allsorts was her secret to staying youthful.

At the reception, centenarians enjoyed a birthday cake decorated with ‘100’, and a band performed ‘Happy Birthday’ as the King and Queen handed out 100th birthday cards to guests.

Every British national who reaches 100 receives a birthday card from the monarch, as well as at 105 and every year after.

Mrs Illingworth, from Bradford, helped to cut the cake, but after saying she couldn’t manage, the King said, “Let me do that,” and helped the 100-year-old with the task.

Others invited include representatives from a group of charities the late Queen served during her reign, such as the Royal College of Nursing, the Victoria Cross and George Cross Association, and the Royal Ballet.

Princess Anne officially opened the Queen Elizabeth II Garden in Regent’s Park on April 21. The same day, the King and Queen visited the British Museum to view design recommendations for a new memorial for the late Queen.
