Are they in or are they out? That’s what everyone is asking about when it comes to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie because there are mixed signals happening behind palace walls.
Surprisingly, Prince William is the one who isn’t interested in keeping his cousins around, while King Charles reportedly has a softer stance toward his nieces. Andrew Lownie, author of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, explained to The Mirror about the constant ping-pong effect for the two royal women.
“The daughters are clearly footballs in this thing,” the royal expert said. “The fact that they are still swanning around the Middle East, using their titles…it doesn’t send out the right signals if you want to work your passage back. It’s confusing.”
Charles apparently is the only one who is “a bit sentimental” about the relationship and wants to be “protective.” But William, Kate Middleton, and even Queen Camilla “see the reputational damage and want to keep them at arm’s length,” claimed Lownie. It is the Prince of Wales who is allegedly keeping the sisters away from Peter Phillips’ wedding on June 6 and Royal Ascot in mid-June, per The Royalist Substack.
While Charles reportedly promised to take care of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s daughters amid the fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, the women’s ties to the Middle East still seem to be an issue. In November 2024, the Daily Mail speculated that Beatrice’s frequent trips helped to “bankroll [ex-prince Andrew’s] stay at Royal Lodge” before his eviction.
It was Prince William who requested an “ethics check” on Beatrice and Eugenie’s personal investments, but they reportedly refused, per The Times. That leaves the royal family in a pickle, which Lownie described as a “very schizophrenic relationship at the moment.”
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie will have to accept William’s terms if they want to remain in the royal family fold. He is, after all, the future King of England.
