Los Angeles is about to get a brand new pizza spot, courtesy of rock royalty.
Navarone Garibaldi Garcia, the son of Priscilla Presley and her second husband, music producer Marco Garibaldi, called upon his fans, friends, and followers on Friday to help fund his dream: NavaPizza, a new pizza restaurant he intends to run out of the driveway of his L.A. home.
Garcia first announced the launch of his GoFundMe in a video shared to his Instagram, in which he rejoiced, “We’re getting a pizza place! We’re getting a pizza oven!” But within a matter of hours, Garcia had pivoted to defense, citing backlash to the fundraiser.
“Haters gonna hate,” Garcia wrote in the caption of a follow-up video shared Friday. “I’m sure I’ll have to explain this many more times to ignorant people who think I should ‘ask my mom’ or that I have money….. YEAH, I also have a lot of bills, I also have a budget, I also donate to other causes.”
“I also give to the homeless,” Garcia continued. “I just don’t film and put it on YouTube… but, I also have crazy ADD and try to do lots of things… if I just went all in every time I thought I had a great idea… I’d be broke in 2 days. I’m not asking anything to donate that can’t afford to, I’m offering free pizza to people that donate… and I’m putting in a lot of my own money to buy this oven. Just asking for help on the remaining bit that’s out of my budget.”
Garcia broke the NavaPizza finances down in the brief description section of the GoFundMe.
“I have always wanted to start my own business, but marketing and advertising always get in my way. As well as having the whole brick and mortar shop to add another expense,” the description begins.
“Now I would like to make and serve affordable organic pizza for my community and sell it from my driveway to the large foot traffic in my neighborhood. I have found a large industrial pizza oven and negotiated it from $14,000 down to $8,500,” wrote Garcia. “I have 3,000 saved up for this… and the pizza dough and sauces already sourced. It’s just buying the oven that I need to get me started. I would truly appreciate any help.”
At the time of writing, Garcia had raised $3,300 out of his $5,500 goal. In a third video shared to his Instagram on Friday, he celebrated getting “39% there!!!”
“Let’s go, guys. Thank you so much, and, and I can’t wait to give you guys pizza,” he shared while walking around his home. In the caption, he noted that it’s “crazy how many people seem to think every business is created by asking someone’s mom for money,” outlining how “investors are a thing, and people love PiZZA!”
