Jacksonville, FL — The Gerod Dove Foundation, one of the South’s leading independent concert promotion companies, has filed a lawsuit against ASM Global (operating locally as SMG Jacksonville), alleging a pattern of misconduct, financial mismanagement, and breaches of contract across several high-profile concert events held at city-managed venues, including the Moran Theater and the Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts.

The complaint, filed in the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court in Duval County, Florida, seeks more than $800,000 in damages, asserting that ASM Global’s local management repeatedly canceled, interfered with, or mishandled major concerts — including shows by Lil Baby, The O’Jays, Frankie Beverly & Maze, and The Isley Brothers — causing devastating financial and reputational harm to the Foundation.

“We’ve worked with major artists and venues across the country,” said William Davis, founder of the Gerod Dove Foundation. “But what happened in Jacksonville went beyond negligence. Contracts were ignored, money was mishandled, and our company’s reputation was dragged through the mud by actions that were completely outside of our control.”

Key Allegations
• Fraud and Extortion: An former ASM Global venue manager allegedly demanded a $10,000 personal payment from the Foundation under the false pretense of a “consulting agreement” before allowing the Lil Baby and Friends concert to proceed.

• Unilateral Cancellations: ASM Global staff allegedly suspended ticket sales and canceled events — including The O’Jays and Frankie Beverly & Maze concerts — without the promoter’s consent, based on misinformation and poor internal communication. This resulted in hundreds of thousands of lost revenue.

• Unauthorized Cash Disbursement: During The Isley Brothers concert in June 2025, ASM Global staff allegedly released $60,000 in cash to third parties without the Foundation’s knowledge or approval, directly violating written contract terms.

• Negligence and Cover-Up: Internal emails and video evidence reportedly confirm ASM Global employees admitted to overstepping their roles and fabricating settlement deficits against the promoter.

Concerns About Unequal Treatment
While the Foundation is not presently alleging race discrimination, it has not ruled out that possibility, as it believes its treatment by ASM Global was markedly different from that of other event promoters operating under similar agreements.

Broader Implications
The lawsuit raises serious concerns about ASM Global’s accountability in managing taxpayer-owned venues on behalf of the City of Jacksonville. ASM Global — one of the largest venue-management corporations in the world — operates public facilities including EverBank Stadium, VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, and the Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts.

Recent national attention has also focused on ASM Global’s business practices. In August 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice announced a $3.5 million settlement with Legends Hospitality for illegal pre-merger coordination involving ASM Global. While unrelated to the Florida lawsuit, that enforcement action underscores the importance of oversight, compliance, and transparency in the operations of companies managing public venues nationwide.

“When public venues are run without transparency or fairness, it hurts small businesses, artists, and the entire local community who attend these shows,” said Attorney Ronnie C. Graham, Esq. of Rev Ron Law, P.A., counsel for the Foundation. “My client did everything right — brought A-listers to the City, followed every contract, paid every invoice — and was met with interference, fraud, and retaliation. This case is about accountability and fairness.”

Seeking Justice and Reform
The Gerod Dove Foundation’s lawsuit seeks not only monetary damages but also declaratory relief affirming its rights as a promoter and holding ASM Global accountable for its actions. The Foundation hopes the case will prompt stronger oversight and transparency standards in venue management contracts nationwide.

The Foundation will keep the public informed as the case progresses — including whether it proceeds to trial or is resolved through settlement — now that SMG and its affiliates have been formally served.
