The Prince and Princess of Wales led the tributes for Queen Camilla today, who is celebrating her 79th birthday.
The Queen honoured the day with a special announcement of a new literacy initiative for children across the United Kingdom.
Earlier this morning, Buckingham Palace released a new portrait of the Queen wearing a striking blue dress.
She is also pictured wearing a diamond and sapphire butterfly brooch with significant royal history. The piece was originally given to Queen Elizabeth II during the Birmingham Spring Fair in February 1977.
Prince William and Catherine then sent their birthday message, writing on Instagram: “Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very happy birthday!”
Buckingham Palace also shared its tribute to Camilla: “Happy Birthday to The Queen!”
The Palace then announced: “Her Majesty has marked her birthday with a renewed commitment to supporting children’s literacy, with the announcement that every Year 6 and P6 child across the UK will be gifted a special edition of the bestselling book ‘Impossible Creatures’ by award-winning author Katherine Rundell, this Christmas.”
The programme, titled The Queen’s Christmas Present, will provide children with the special edition books, which will carry a distinctive royal stamp on their covers, accompanied by a handwritten message from the Queen inside.

In her personal note to recipients, Her Majesty writes: “Impossible Creatures, by one of my favourite writers, is a brilliant fantasy that will introduce you to a host of mythical friends and terrifying enemies and I hope that you will love it as much as I do.”
The Home Office and the Ministry of Defence then took to social media to wish the Queen a happy birthday.
Meanwhile, the British Army marked the special day with Royal Gun Salutes across London.

The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery fired in Green Park before the Honourable Artillery Company fired from the Tower of London, it was confirmed.
Westminster Abbey paid tribute to Camilla on social media and rang the infamous Abbey bells at 1pm this afternoon to celebrate. They shared a photo of the King and Queen in the Abbey at the annual Commonwealth Day celebration in March.
Battersea, the charity organisation focused on helping dogs and cats without a home that the Queen is Patron of, wrote: “Wishing a very happy birthday to our Patron, Her Majesty The Queen.
“From all the dogs, cats and humans at Battersea: we hope you have a wonderful day!”
Ascot Racecourse concluded the day’s tributes, wishing the Queen “a very happy birthday”.
Both the monarch and his wife have grown to love horse racing since the King ascended to the throne, and made an appearance at all five days of Royal Ascot this year.
There, the couple led the traditional Royal Procession in horse-drawn carriages from Tuesday through to Saturday, continuing a longstanding tradition created by King George IV more than 200 years ago.
