While there, the royal couple met local traders, schoolchildren and members of the public, enjoying live music and performances that bring the square to life and reflect the town’s rich cultural scene. But there was one particular moment which caught people’s attention.
As the Queen, who was dressed in light blue, was greeting members of the public, she spotted a puppy waiting for her alongside its owners, in front of the barriers.
The Queen wasted no time and picked the little pooch up, giving it her full undivided attention.
The four-legged baby, eight-month-old Teddy, gave back with lots of cuddles and kisses with the crowd behind them, including the Queen’s security, melting.
Royal fans were emotional with the Queen’s special meeting, with one fan writing on X: “Look at this cutie [emotional emoji].”
Another one added: “So cute!”
Earlier, Camilla met survivors of domestic abuse being supported by Women’s Aid in the town.
Her Majesty thanked workers and volunteers, telling them the work they do is “more important than ever”.
Camilla met people from agencies and organisations, including the Police Service of Northern Ireland, food banks and Community NI, before meeting survivors of domestic abuse, and their children.
In a short impromptu address to those at the venue, she said their work is “more important than ever”, and hailed all the organisations coming together.
“I think that’s what is needed all over the country. Thank you very much,” she added, to applause.
