In his 2023 memoir, Spare, the Duke confirmed there had been an argument with Ms Kelly, the late Queen’s closest aide, over the diamond bandeau tiara Meghan borrowed for the big day.
He accused her of failing to accommodate suitable trial fittings for his future wife and wrote: “She [Ms Kelly] was being obstructive … To my mind, Angela was a troublemaker and I didn’t need her as an enemy”.
Previously, sources close to the Duke have insisted that he did not shout at his grandmother during the incident, and that an allegation that he used coarse language to intervene was “totally untrue”.
Following a 2020 newspaper report which described the incident as an “astonishing outburst”, a source close to Prince Harry said that “the suggestion the Duke ‘yelled’ at his grandmother is totally untrue, and completely ridiculous, as is the suggestion that he said ‘what the hell’.”
