The Queen appeared to bid her final goodbye to the world with a gorgeous double rainbow that appeared over Buckingham Palace minutes before the British Royal Family confirmed she had died on September 8, 2022.
Large crowds had been gathering for hours outside the royal residence in central London after the Palace had confirmed Elizabeth II’s doctors had placed her under “medical supervision” earlier that day.
As they awaited news from Scotland, where her family had gathered in what turned out to be her final hours, royal fans noticed a spectacular double rainbow had formed over the palace.
Photos and videos of the natural phenomenon quickly began circulating online, with social media users suggesting the rainbow was Her late Majesty’s final bow to the nation.
User @MsDeb52 on X, the website formerly known as Twitter, left many teary-eyed by captioning the photo: “Philip and Elizabeth.”
User @ColeysMrs commented: “Double rainbow. God bless the Queen.” And @m1872C added: “Long live the Queen.”
X user @Chloe36501078 added: “We say goodbye to the Queen and we mourn but yet the rainbow still shines through to give us all hope for the coming years.”
The Queen died aged 96 at her Scottish residence of Balmoral. Her eldest son, King Charles III, and her daughter, Princess Anne, were both present when she died at 3 P.M.
Her youngest sons, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, traveled to Scotland with Prince William and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh
Her death certificate was released a few weeks later and cited “old age” as her cause of death.
She had been struggling with her walking for a few months before her death, and commentators expressed concerns about her health following what would be her final public appearance two days before her death.
Following the announcement of her death on all major British and international broadcasts, tributes began to pour in from world leaders paying tribute to the longest-reigning UK Queen in history.
Charles III addressed the nation as king for the first time on September 9, praising his late “darling Mama” for 70 years of “sacrifice” and “unswerving devotion.”
He said: “Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.
“(…) And to my darling Mama as you begin your last great journey to join my dear late Papa, I want simply to say this: thank you.
“Thank you for your love and devotion to our family and to the family of nations you have served so diligently all these years. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
