EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Barbi Jo DiMaria, host of 92 PRO FM‘s midday show, was a guest on this edition of Spotlight New England.
The Johnston native has been working at the station for 20 years and had some advice for younger generations considering a similar career path.
“Speak up. It’s OK to let it be known what your goals are,” DiMaria said.
“Any interns that come through the radio station or anyone that will ask my advice, I’m like, ‘Let yourself be heard. Every once in a while, just let people know your goals.’”
When asked what she loves about radio, DiMaria said it’s having a voice.
“You have a voice to this audience you don’t realize,” she said. “So, it’s nice to have a voice. It’s nice to entertain people. People will always say, ‘You’re very relatable.’ You don’t realize that you’re actually putting a smile to somebody’s face.”
DiMaria said it’s been “such a privilege” to work at 92 PRO FM for the past 20 years.
“I didn’t know I was going to make my entire home and career here,” she said. “Personally, it is such an honor and a privilege to work where I work. It’s the station I grew up listening to. There’s such a love for it.”
“I knew I wanted to build a career here in Rhode Island, I just didn’t think it would be for this entire, you know, two decades of PRO FM,” DiMaria added.
Hear Barbi Jo weekdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on 92 PRO FM.
