As the muscle-bound star of The Incredible Hulk, bodybuilder and actor Lou Ferrigno rose to fame as a green-skinned comic book monster. Years later, longtime fans are still just as devoted to the iconic TV star…and he doesn’t even have to paint himself the color of split pea soup to prove it.
In a pic shared to Instagram this week, Ferrigno, 73, posed alongside a fan at the recent Tampa Bay Comic Convention. The actor looked as fit as ever as he smiled for the camera (a far cry from the glowering chartreuse character he’s most famous for playing).
Fans in the comments were quick to rave about the meet-and-greet moment.
“I love him so much!! ❤️❤️” one person gushed, with a second noting, “Dudes looking good for his age.”
“Total Class Act. One of the nicest celebrities I’ve ever met, no question. And still in better shape than most men half his age,” declared another commenter.
Of course, just because he’s not the Hulk anymore doesn’t mean he can’t be a monster. In an interview with Variety earlier this year, Ferrigno opened up about playing his first “creature role” since The Incredible Hulk as a cannibalistic pig farmer in the horror movie The Hermit.
“The thing is that I’d never done a horror film before. And I think it’s interesting because that character is very close to me, in a way,” he said, adding, “He’s a cannibalistic pig farmer. It’s based on the true story of a cannibalistic pig farm in Canada years ago. What’s nice about the movie is that he’s a very complex person.”
“I could have done a horror film in the past, but I was attracted to this character because there are people like that,” Ferrigno continued. “This guy, when you see the film, he’s kind of possessed. So you see the pain, you see the demons in him — everything. And it’s kind of like an adventure, where it’s the hideous that’s staring at you. I mean, I was impressed.”
