Retired ‘80s icon Kristy McNichol left quite the impression on Wilson Phillips singer Carnie Wilson after a recent meetup.
On July 20, Wilson shared a photo beaming alongside the 63-year-old former actress on her Facebook page, expressing how excited she was to run into one of her childhood idols.
“Totally fangirling!!! Kris ( Kristy McNichol) was a part of my youth. I adored her in her movies…Especially Little Darlings and The End,” the 58-year-old singer and daughter of The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson wrote.
Wilson was able to tell McNichol “how meaningful her movies” have been in her life, noting that she and her best friend were “just talking” about “how special she is” shortly before the encounter.

“What a gracious sweetie. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ She sure is loved,” Wilson ended the Facebook post, which drew the attention of hundreds of nostalgic commenters.
McNichol was one of the most popular actresses of her generation in the ‘70s and ‘80s, starring in movies like Little Darlings and TV shows like Family and Empty Nest. McNichol won two Emmy Awards for her role on Family, one in 1977 and then again in 1979.
However, in the ‘90s, she stepped away from the spotlight and officially retired from acting in 2001.
PEOPLE caught up with McNichol in a rare 2014 interview, where she shared insight into her decision.
“I was on the big stage between ages 8 and 30,” McNichol said. “I left show business for a variety of reasons, but a big one was my interest in learning what else there is in life.”
“This phase of my life is so good,” she shared. “My home life is happy and serene. I love singing. I also enjoy traveling and seeing the world. One of my favorite stops is Hawaii. I like everything about it and may eventually move there part-time.”
When asked if McNichol would ever return to acting, she teased, “Never say never.”
