The world presents different challenges of varying intensities for different people, and Ray Noir is here to share some of his worldview with his latest single and EP. With Against The Machine set to be released on September 18th, the London-based Noir unveils the music video for “Mad World.”
Not a cover of the Tears For Fears song of the same name, Noir’s new single is an appropriate commentary on today’s political and social climate. The video clip features the singer and songwriter on an up close and personal stroll through the London Underground, or as it is more commonly known, “The Tube.” The song itself is meant to be an honest commentary on the harsh realities of today’s society, stripping the facade back to expose the bare reality of living in a world dictated by power and corruption.
Commenting on “Mad World,” Noir states:
“‘Mad World’ is a cry from the margins, raw, emotional, and unflinching in its reflection on oppression, fear, and survival.”
Noir is an alt-queer artist, joining together industrial beats, electronic metal, and gothic edge. His goal is to stand up for the outsider and draw attention to the realities of the outsider or the ones who don’t fit neatly into the boxes society has designated for them. He started to make waves last year with his Scorpio mixtape, which has garnered 150,000 streams on Spotify alone. Against The Machine will be an extension of the themes discussed on “Mad World.”
The songs explore love, loss, and defiance. They are specifically presented from the queer point of view, striving to find their own place in the world. Earlier this year, Noir dropped the Valentine’s Day single “Razorblade Romance” and set out on a UK tour. Speaking of Tears For Fears, he released an industrial-focused single of the band’s megahit “Shout.”
