Meghan Markle is reportedly travelling to Australia for one very specific reason – and it is not just to host her wellness retreat in Sydney. The 44-year-old will arrive in Australia next week alongside her husband, Prince Harry, while their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are thought to be staying in the US.
The couple will be carrying out “a number of private, business, and philanthropic engagements” whilst Down Under, with the tour previously deemed a “faux-royal tour” due to the nature of the visit.
It has been speculated that Meghan may be in Australia to boost business for Soho House, which is set to open its first venue in Sydney this year, according to the Daily Mail.
Soho House is an exclusive, members-only social club that was founded in London in 1995. It is also the location where Meghan went on her first date with Harry in July 2016.
At present there is no official opening date for the five-level venue in Darlinghurst, but some eyebrows have been raised eyebrows at the timing of Meghan’s visit to Australia.
One of the hosts of the Her Best Life podcast, who have organised the wellness event that Meghan will attend next week, is also said to be behind the Soho House Sydney project.
Taking to Reddit, one commenter wrote: “[Gemma] O’Neill isn’t just some random podcast host fangirling over Harry’s SoHo rental. She’s on the Soho House Sydney advisory committee, which means this Girls Weekend retreat is Soho House business disguised as women’s empowerment.”
Speaking of Markus Anderson, who is the Soho House executive, they added: “Markus arranging it from Madame’s house isn’t friendship. This seems to be his job.
“He is the Soho House consultant, and he is coordinating promotion for their Sydney opening.”
Another commentator pointed out, however, that the venue will likely not be ready by next week. They added: “It doesn’t look like it will be open when they are there. I think it’s either that a part of it is ready (but that’s not usually how they roll), or they are doing early recruiting and promoting to recover some cost.”
