The Princess of Wales has just completed a triumphant two-day visit to Italy and was met with enormous crowds wherever she went. Shortly before her arrival, an aide to the princess described the trip as a “significant moment” for the future Queen, saying: “This is a huge moment for the princess. There will be many highlights of 2026, but this being her first international visit post her recovery… this is a really significant moment for her.”
Catherine has understandably put her recovery and family above official duties since she confirmed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024. But, as she takes a firmer step back into the spotlight, the author of a new book on the Princess has explained exactly why she is finally putting herself first.
“In fact, Kate’s desire to break the news of her cancer diagnosis after the children returned home from school for Easter break in 2024 led to her disappearance from public view for two months while she secretly underwent chemotherapy in London. The Princess’s disappearance famously triggered ‘Kategate’, the tsunami of online conspiracy theories… of course, none of this was true, and when Kate announced to the world on March 22, 2024, it practically knocked the planet off its axis.”
Mr Andersen continued: “In typical fashion, Kate wrote her statement herself and delivered it with poise and calm in a single take. She decided to put aside everything else and focus on her recovery. She has been in remission for 15 months now, but the effects of chemotherapy can last for years.
“She still has good days and bad days, and is determined to pace herself. The princess is in total control of her own return to public life. In the process of her recovery, Kate has found a new, very spiritual attachment to the healing power of nature – and that has led her to release four videos that she calls her Mother Nature series.
“Early childhood education is another passion of Kate’s, and one of the reasons she made her first trip abroad to Reggio Emelia is because of the Italian learning centre’s reputation for focusing on the natural world in their groundbreaking curriculum.”
The Princess’s two-day visit to Italy was not only a hit with the locals, but with Catherine herself. Following her final day, she penned a moving, personal post which began: “Over the past two days in Reggio Emilia, I have seen first-hand the power of nature and creativity that put human connection at the centre of a child’s world.
“I have had such a deeply moving and unforgettable time here. Thank you to the people of Reggio Emilia for welcoming me into a culture of care with such warmth and generosity. Our collective work in early childhood must be to protect and nurture the connections that form the foundations of lifelong wellbeing. Grazie di cuore (thank you from the heart). C.”
