Peet and Mel Viljoen are asking for forgiveness as Peet faces 400 charges.

The reality TV star, who is facing 400 charges including fraud, forgery, corruption and theft, appeared briefly in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria on Friday, 26 June.
Peet is accused of selling municipal property in 2010. He was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday, 16 June when he landed from the US.
He had just been released from a notorious prison called Alcatraz Alligator in the US, where he was detained for fraud alongside his wife, Mel.
Mel was previously cast on Real Housewives of Pretoria and Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip. Peet also appeared on the shows.
She shared a statement on social media on Friday, 26 June, asking for forgiveness for both her and Peet.

“To everyone we have hurt. This is one of the most difficult posts we have ever written. Over the past few weeks, the Lord has done a profound work in both my heart and Peet’s heart. Through everything we have experienced, He has humbled us, confronted us and reminded us of what truly matters.
“Today, we want to take responsibility for our past. To the people we hurt through our videos, our words, and our actions—we are truly sorry. There were times when we spoke without enough grace, responded without enough compassion and said things that caused real hurt. Whether it was in interviews, videos, social media posts, or personal interactions, we recognise that our words carried weight and sometimes they wounded people,” she wrote.
Mel said they’ve learnt a lot from their experiences.
“We cannot erase what has already been said or done. We cannot rewrite history. But we can acknowledge it honestly and ask for forgiveness. God has shown us that humility is far more important than pride and love is far more powerful than being right. We have learned that every person deserves dignity, respect and kindness, even when we disagree.
“We are not writing this because anyone forced us to. We are writing it because we have been convicted in our hearts and we believe that true repentance is followed by changed behaviour. We know that saying ‘sorry’ is only the beginning. Our lives and our future actions must demonstrate that this change is real,” Mel wrote.
She also asked that people forgive them.
“If our words, our videos or our actions caused you pain, disappointment or made you feel hurt, please accept our heartfelt apology. We understand that forgiveness cannot be demanded—it’s a gift. Whether you choose to forgive us now, later, or not at all, we respect your decision. All we ask is for the opportunity to let our future actions reflect the people we are striving to become.
“Thank you to everyone who has prayed for us, shown us grace and reminded us that no one is beyond redemption,” she wrote.
