Families across the UK celebrated Mother’s Day yesterday, and the Royal Family were no exception. While Mother’s Day can be a happy event for people, for many, it can cause some sadness, especially for those whose mothers are no longer around.
Sharing the photograph, which showed a two-year-old William with his mother Diana in the garden at Highgrove in Gloucestershire, William wrote: “Remembering my mother, today and every day.”
The future King continued: “Thinking of all those who are remembering someone they love today. Happy Mother’s Day. W.”
No other photographs were shared by Kensington Palace.
This is believed to be because this year marks Diana’s 65th birthday, so William wanted to focus on his late mother for Mother’s Day.
Princess Catherine would no doubt have supported her husband’s decision to make this the case.
While William’s wife and three children did not meet Diana, it is believed they speak about her often, with the children also having written Mother’s Day cards to “Granny Diana” in the past.
The future king said: “We’ve got more photos up around the house now of her, and we talk about her a bit.
“It’s hard because obviously Catherine didn’t know her, so she cannot really provide that level of detail, so I regularly put George and Charlotte to bed, talk about her, and just try to remind them that there are two grandmothers, there were two grandmothers in their lives. So it’s important that they know who she was and that she existed.”
