It’s a good time to be Rebecca Black.
The pop star and DJ recently announced her upcoming second full-length album Age of the Exhibitionist, which comes out on Friday, Sept. 4. The project arrives after a major 2025 for Black, 29, who headlined her own Salvation Tour, opened for Katy Perry’s Lifetimes Tour in North American arenas and even fell in love during her time on the road.
While Black tells PEOPLE she sneakily “tucked” a photo with her girlfriend into a recent Instagram dump, the pair’s romance has remained mostly private. Her latest single “Hot Wet Delirious” was inspired by the relationship’s beginnings, specifically “that feeling of somebody getting so deep under your skin in the positive way that you just become a f—ing freak about it.”

Aside from including some details in a song, how does Black navigate which parts of her love life to share with fans? “I don’t know,” she says. “I think a lot of it just goes down to intuition.”
“I have so many friends in wonderfully public relationships that do it so well and with so much thought. I’ve also had so many friends be burned by doing that,” explains Black. “I don’t really have any rules for myself and neither has anybody I’ve ever dated, really, as an adult.”
She often prefers to keep the details in the music. “What I make and give to people is more about the art and fantasy I create and less about being tethered to my real life, if that makes sense,” says Black.

However, she does appreciate fans’ interest. “The other day someone sent me a tweet that was like, ‘I hope Rebecca Black and her butch girlfriend are having a good day.’ I sent that to her, and I was like, ‘Thank you,'” she explains. “But I think I’ve always, as I’ve grown up, retreated a lot of my personal details from my world.”

“I find it way easier to talk about in a song than I do online,” continues Black. “I’ve posted her. She’s just a naturally extremely private person. She’s hard to find online, which is even annoying to me. But I go with the wind. And I love that she’s mysterious. It’s so hot.”
In support of Age of the Exhibitionist, Black will perform shows throughout North America this fall as part of her Exhibitionism on Tour.
“I have taken matters into my own hands with this tour and really built something that feels just much grander and more polished,” she teases. “We’ve, I think, built something that feels really unique and only further will express the visual identity of the album. It’ll be very sexy and very beautiful and hopefully very one of one.”
