Reese Witherspoon’s crippling bouts of anxiety once impacted her career and home life — and forced her to seek out nontraditional hypnotherapy, which she still uses to beat her personal demons, sources say.
The Morning Show star, 49, was popping anti-anxiety pills to curb her panic attacks and attention deficit disorder — but the meds were doing little good, spies share.
That’s why, insiders confide, the Hollywood powerhouse relied on a hypnotist, who helped to finally calm her fears and slow down her racing thoughts — without medication.

“Reese went to a hypnotist before she was to start filming Wild. She was a nervous wreck, worrying about the shoot and how she was going to play this character — and the experience changed her life,” an insider says.
Since that encounter more than a decade ago, Reese has been a die-hard devotee, the insider explains.
“She sees her hypnotist once a week at least, sometimes more often when the pressures of her career start to feel overwhelming,” the insider says of the busy mom, who shares kids Ava, 26, and Deacon, 21, with ex Ryan Phillippe and son Tennessee, 13, with former husband Jim Toth.

“Things can get hectic in her world with the show and her other projects, plus her brand deals and the kids … and trying to maintain a relationship with all that going on can be difficult, too,” the insider adds, referring to Reese’s yearlong romance with financier Oliver Haarmann.
“With hypnosis, Reese experiences a feeling of comfort and peace, and she comes out of it completely relaxed. It’s the best thing she ever did for herself, and it’s done wonders in her romantic situation. She’s not as stressed, and she’s a better listener.”
Reese dished about her issues and how hypnotherapy has transformed her life on the Las Culturistas podcast, in which she admitted she’s a “high-anxiety person.”
She confessed that before hypnotherapy, “Sometimes I’d have to take Ativan to calm down and then it would make me feel like a zombie, and then I wasn’t performing at the level I wanted to, and I wasn’t as funny.”
According to the star, her practitioner utilizes neurolinguistic programming, which experts say is an approach to personal development, communication and psychotherapy, and influences how people think and respond to stimuli.
Adds the source, “Reese would be a hot mess without hypnosis.”
